The garden is called the Ryukyu Garden, but since there were originally branches outside of Okinawa Prefecture, lanterns that are not part of the Ryukyu Garden are mixed in, making it a garden with mainland awareness. The landscape has not changed since around 90 years ago. The thick trees, called kurukis in Okinawan dialect, which are nearly 100 years old, are a sight to behold and stand in a line around the kurukis to the entrance.

Description

Tsukayama Sake Brewery Garden in the western part of Nago City in what was once its city center. When company founder Choho Tsukayama acquired the current location in 1927, he built a brewery that doubled as his residence and began producing “Kokka”, his brand of the Okinawan alcoholic beverage called Awamori. The garden is thought to also have been created around this time. The brewery managed to evade damage during World War II, and Awamori is still being made today at the same location. The main building stands in the center of the nearly rectangular site, and it is said that the elongated shape of the garden is modeled after the shape of the main island of Okinawa. There is also an ornamental stone made of Paleozoic limestone from the northern part of the main island. The design of the garden on the grounds of the brewery has a very distinctive design and is a significant example of the contributions made to the development of landscaping culture in modern-day Okinawa Prefecture.
